This is one of the coolest marriage proposals that I have seen. Not that I know of any students considering getting married, the tools to produce the same are all at your disposal.

I don't find this to be incredible but rather I am surprised that there aren't more stories like this.
He wanted to learn to read, so he taught himself. I'm a big fan of Legos. I think they are a great tool for helping kids think. I think Legos are better for kids than crap like Bratz. I am actually dismayed at the quality of toys available for kids, especially for girls.
The most important thing to gain from this article is if you want something, go out and get it. Don't wait for someone to hand it to you or chop it up into little bite size pieces for you to digest it.
I remember meeting two amazing self taught painters in Pasadena while taking a workshop from Morgan Weistling. They learned how to paint from reading the Richard Schmid book, Alla Prima: Everything I Know About Painting This book is in the library.
I don't know if anyone cares, but I'm taking this quarter off. I should be back in the fall and I will probably be stopping by the school from time to time.
Also, if anyone is interested in attending a conference of professional entertainment artists, I highly recommend going to Adapt Montreal - http://www.adaptmontreal.com/a2007/. I went last year and it was awesome. I'd say it is much better than Siggraph in the sense that you have people giving lectures and answering questions as opposed to someone trying to sell you a product.
Some of the people I saw there last were were Syd Mead, Dylan Cole, Ian McCaig just to name a few. If you're serious about your education, it will help you to know who's doing what in the industry.
