Hey guys, I had no idea that this was even a rumor. It looks like it's a go.
The exec at Warner Brothers who brought the studio 300 and Batman Begins secured the rights to the film for a seven figure sum after a bidding war.
While there are inevitable comparisons to Blade Runner, I'm thinking now with matte painting compositing and 3d, creating this film in live action is no longer an insurmountable financial task. It's looking like it's going to be a two part epic.
Greg Silverman is overseeing for Warners. Katsuhiro Otomo is executive producing. Legendary Pictures is co-financing. Leonaro DiCaprio will produce for Appian Way. This is Ruairi Robinson's feature film debut.
I can kind of see DiCaprio as Kaneda. I wonder who will play Tetsuo.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Kaneda's bike. I wonder if it will actually be available for purchase.
This video is a bit long, but it's worth the wait to see the ending. This is probably one of the cooler things I've seen in a while.
Considering that the cost of the equipment used in this demo is fairly low and he's using off the shelf parts with nothing exotic would make this pretty impressive if developers were able to incorporate this kind of data into their games. As games become hyper-realistic at insane amounts of resolution, the trend seems to slide back towards cell-shading. Taste, it seems lis like a radio station, in that after many different genre's and looks are created, eventually you come back to what was once popular.
I think this bit of increased interactivity will significantly add to the immersive qualities of games. This guy has some interesting projects on his webpage. I think the $14 Steadycam is a winner.
One thing that really bugs me is when students use the excuse, “I didn’t have money to pay for printing.”
You would never catch a professional blaming their lack of money or lack of access to equipment. If you have an assignment, it’s your job to get it done. The difference between school and real life is when you make an excuse in real life YOU DON’T GET PAID. In school, if you use an excuse like this and you fail a class, you have to pay to take the class again. Either way, you’re losing money.
I blew a buttload of cash when I was in school going to different 24 hour all-night print shops. I tried to find the ones who did the best work and the ones who I could rely on.
Many of you still wait till the last minute and use the print bureau. Then when finals day comes, you have nothing to show and you blame the print bureau. What you’re hoping is that when you have nothing to show you can say, “It’s not my fault. It’s someone else’s fault.” That kind of excuse doesn’t fly in the real world. You need to take as much control as you can over your jobs.
If printers like the Epson Photo printers existed when I was in school, I would have gladly shelled out $2000 for them, even as a student. Because I know that I have spent more than this in terms of time, money and lack of sleep.
You can buy a decent printer nowadays for $89. I’m sure many of you have already spent more than this at the service bureau. The only time you should be using the service bureau is when you need a print size that is beyond the capability of your printer. The fact is you can get a printer for less than $400 that will print up to 13 x 19 inches. How many projects have you done that big? Wouldn’t it be worth $400(or less) to not show up on finals with a lame excuse?
What would you be willing to pay so you would never have to say “It’s not my fault,” ever again?
Below are links to some very good printers. Another tip: Always buy 2 colors of the same ink when it runs out. Click the title or 'Read More' to see them.
