I've been dealing with a deadbeat client for the past two years. I've been trying to get paid but to no avail. I recently started using some legal services and was about to take this client to court when they paid what they owed me in full.
It's worth it to learn what your legal options are. Do not be afraid of going to court. I was actually looking forward to going to court because it was probably going to be a slam dunk case in my favor. This is also the reason that the client finally paid up. They would have had no valid reason for not paying me.
The thing that lit a fire under my ass to get this money was talking to the other instructors who were also owed money by this same company. In many instances, you get advice from older/wiser illustrators to just walk away from the hassle of dealing with a bad client and eating the loss.
I think that this is a bad precedent to set. One stereotype is that artists are shy and inarticulate. Also the cost of hiring someone to represent you may be higher than the amount of money you're trying to recover.
If you can take it to small claims court, I would recommend doing so. Document everything you possibly can. Do not leave anything open to the interpretation by the judge because ultimately, his decision, as arbitrary as it might be, will determine whether you get paid or not.
I really can't advise anyone as I'm not a lawyer, nor have I been to small claims court. My advise to you is to seek out legal advice from a lawyer who is familiar with your field.
I'm glad this thing is over. I've been feeling like I've had a black cloud over my head and now it's gone. I feel like karmically, some better things are in store for me.
I hate when I see a student try to turn in an image that they find on the web as their own. I also hate when a student fails a class and tries to turn in the same work from that failed class again to a different teacher. There seems to be this belief that if you find it online, then it's free. Nothing could be further from the truth.
While this photo made by Sony's advertising agency is clearly influenced by what was done by Apple's ad agency, it's not plagiarism. However, the fact that someone online noticed the blatant similarity only serves to make Sony look like fools. As a result I'm sure that Sony will fire this ad agency. Because someone did such a stupid copy, it's going to cost this ad agency, maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
If it's the same ad agency that produced both ads, you've basically made a professional ass out of yourself. So if it's you who is the designer who did this, guess what, you're probably going to get fired.
You know what else? When you screw up this badly, not only are you fired by your boss, your boss will also tell all his friends not to hire you, and they'll tell their friends, and so on and so on.
It's a fact that when you do well, very few people remember, but when you screw up, no one forgets.
This is pretty damn silly but cool nontheless. It's funny, because I remember as a kid i used to go outside and run around and play sports.
Nowadays kids spend most of their time at home playing video games or watching TV. Or do kids still play outside anymore? I hardly ever see any in my neighborhood, other than when they're walking home from school. These are going to be made by Heelys, who I believe are the people who brought us the skate shoe.
I'm not sure this will improve your kills in Halo, but it's worth a shot.
