Why avoid these? Some are loaded enough to be awkward in critique. Some are just plain bad, or just plain overused. Or worse, some of these give us junior high art class flashbacks.
- Winged Humans
- Skull(s) and/or Demon(s)
- Kitten(s) with Flower(s), etc.
- Portraits of Your Kids
- Overt Religious Symbols or Subjects
- Anime Styles You Learned from a How-To-Draw-Anime Book (even if they're "your own" characters)
- That Full Page Doodle You've Made for Years That Others Make Too
- Nude Self-Portraits, especially when the assignment is for anything else other than that.

Here is a short list of some of the suppliers around town that I like.
I was asked by students to list some art stores so here they are. Desert Art Supply and Blick offer student discounts with ID. I don't know about the other places.
